La- Z- Boy Employees Become Part of the RMHC Family
The Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham Alabama has recently made a huge expansion. Located near Children’s of Alabama and UAB hospital, this facility underwent much needed growth. The expansion added 73 new rooms including guest rooms, common areas, and dens. Thanks to the generosity of La- Z- Boy, these rooms are ready to live in. The company fully furnished all the rooms with rugs, chairs, sofas, and accessories.
La- Z- Boy has been a partner to RMHC for over 10 years and the relationship continues to grow. Over the past 10 years, La- Z- Boy has donated over 6,000 pieces of furniture and furnished 130 houses. Their support is a major part of what makes RMH feel like a home away from home. After long days and nights at the hospital, it’s important for families to have a comfortable place to go to. Birmingham store owner Curt Morris states, “The Ronald McDonald House is the most uplifting thing for me. They provide rooms, meals, and we are so glad to be a partner, when I go there is just wells be up. I am so thankful for them.” Morris sees RMH as part of their family, and RMH feels the same way about La- Z- Boy.
Employees from the Birmingham store have become especially close to the families and volunteers of RMH. They visit the house monthly to cook homemade meals and connect with the families. Katherine Billmeier, RMH chief executive officer, stated that they’ve become familiar friends to the guest families staying there. Both organizations share the belief that family means hope.
